Our History
1967
K-Line Maintenance and Construction was founded
Glenn Kellett founded K-Line Maintenance and Construction with a clear vision of delivering high-quality, reliable services to the needs of the municipal utilities market. Drawing on over two decades of hands-on trade experience, Glenn brought deep industry knowledge, technical expertise, and a strong work ethic to the company’s foundation. Under his direction, the company quickly earned a reputation for excellence. From there, the stage was set for sustained growth and long-term success in the utility services sector.
1983
K-Line Insulators Limited was established
Following the success of K-Line Maintenance and Construction, Glenn Kellett expanded his entrepreneurial vision by founding K-Line Insulators Limited (“K-Line Insulators”). His goal was to design and manufacture high-performance utility hardware that prioritized safety and innovation. Drawing on his experience as a lineman, Glenn identified the need for a more reliable, safer insulator, and set out to build it.
1985
Pioneering the future of silicone insulators
After initial success with the first generation of EPDM rubber designs, K-Line Insulators became an industry leader by developing their proprietary silicone rubber, with enhanced hydrophobicity and durability. This formulation has stood the test of time with insulators in service for over 30 years.
1990
Welcome Tony Carreira
With a vision for continued growth, Glenn hired Tony Carreira as President of K-Line Insulators in 1990. Tony brought with him an extensive background in transmission and distribution line design, planning, construction and maintenance, at a major electric utility in Ontario. After joining KLI, Tony developed his expertise in the design, production, and application of insulators. He played a pivotal role in the company, driving success through market diversification, product line generation, and innovation.
1992
The K-Clamp™: The all-in-one line clamp
When a utility lineman raised concerns about traditional trunnion clamps at a conference, Tony Carreira took the initiative to redesign the entire insulator system. As the driving force behind innovation at K-Line Insulators, Tony led the design and development of the K-Clamp™, a groundbreaking solution that was just the beginning. Backed by a strong manufacturing team, K-Line Insulators continued to push boundaries, setting the stage for future advancements and solidifying its reputation as a leader in the industry. To this day, live line crews and utilities praise this universal design for its safety, ease of installation, and cost savings.
1994
Expansion to the U.S
K-Line Insulators expanded its operations to the United States, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth. KLI continues to operate and distribute through our U.S office in Rochester, NY, to a consolidated network of sales representatives / distributors.
2001
Leadership transition to Mark and Allan Kellett
Following Glenn’s passing, his sons Mark and Allan took over leadership of the K-Line Group of Companies. Drawing on their experience as second-generation linemen and sharing Glenn’s entrepreneurial vision, Mark and Allan were ready to continue what their father started.
2012
Expansion to Mexico
K-Line Insulators expanded its operations to Mexico, entering a new market and broadening its international reach. With dedicated sales representation in Mexico, K-Line Insulators serves the local customers as well as Central America and the Caribbean.
2014
Best Managed Company
In 2014, K-Line Insulators was honored to be named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the first time. This recognition, managed by Deloitte, marked a major milestone in our journey, affirming our commitment to excellence, innovation, and strategic growth. It reinforced our dedication to cultivating a strong organizational culture and investing in our people.
2015
KLI headquarters: Warehouse and plant expansion
K-Line Insulators proudly completed a major expansion of its warehouse and plant operations at its headquarters in Scarborough, Ontario. This addition of over 10,000 square feet significantly enhanced production and storage capacity, enabling us to better meet the growing demands of our customers across Canada and internationally. The expanded facility supports increased manufacturing efficiency, improved workflow, and greater flexibility in handling complex orders and inventory management.
2017
Continued Innovation
As K-Line Insulators continued to grow, so did the innovation of new products and services. After the initial success of the K-Clamp™, KLI went on to develop products such as the K-Arm™, Totally Insulated Framing (TIF™) systems for transmission and distribution, link sticks, and more. With new product lines came more staff and growth for the company, all while maintaining the highest level of quality, expert technical support, short lead times, and on time delivery.
2025
42 years of excellence
After 42 years, K-Line Insulators remains a prominent leader in the utility industry. The K-Line name is synonymous with high quality and high performance in all conditions. Mark and Allan proudly own and operate the K-Line Group of Companies, grounded in their father’s family values. Today, the third generation of the Kellett family has joined the company, continuing Glenn’s legacy. K-Line Insulators is guided by their vision statement “A Better Insulator for a Brighter Future”, with innovation at the forefront of providing solutions to the utility industry.
